2019 Presentations

Target Audience:

This course is designed for Paramedics, EMTs, First Responders, EMS System Directors, Fire Chiefs, Managers, Medical Directors and Educators, as well as Emergency Nurses, Researchers, Physicians and policy makers interested in EMS, Trauma & Resuscitation, and Related State-of-the-Art Investigations & Care Delivery across the United States.

Purpose and Content:

Introduce new patient care strategies and techniques in cardiac care, stroke managements, prehospital trauma care and pediatric care. Share with attendees and faculty cutting edge information and advances in EMS research, management issues and patient care. Prepare participants for disaster situations by having those who have experienced actual disaster challenges share with the audience what worked for them in a those stressful situations. Exchange protocol ideas between services in other states and counties. Discuss fiscal and/or administrative issues affecting the cost and operations of EMS systems and learn what works with different sized or configured systems.

Educational Objectives:

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to link the educational objectives to Core Competencies (Patient Care, Medical Knowledge, Practice-Based Learning, Communication, Professionalism, System Based Practice, Interdisciplinary Teams, Quality Improvement, and Informatics) and be able to:

  • List various methodologies to improve care of patients in EMS systems.
  • Better articulate developments in pre-hospital patient care.
  • Explain the regulatory environment for EMS providers.
  • Recite a list of practices of advances in resuscitation research.
  • Discuss innovation in EMS response and transport.

Accreditation Statement:

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

EMS continuing education credit is provided by the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, an organization accredited as a EMS continuing education provider by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Credit Designation:

This live activity is approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

A primary mechanism to resolve identified conflicts of interest is a content review that is prior to the activity.

Discussion of Off-Label Use:

This course is meant to educate physicians with what is currently in use and what may be available in the future. There may be “off-label” use discussed in the activity. Speakers have been requested to inform the audience when off-label use is discussed.

Pre-Registration will close Monday, February 25, 2019 at 12:00pm Central Time.  A limited number of late registration/onsite spaces will be available at an additional cost, beginning Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at 9:00am Central Time.

The registration fee entitles participants admission to the conference, all course materials, continental breakfasts, refreshment breaks and lunches.

Enrollment is confirmed upon receipt of registration fee. Registration cannot be processed without payment. On-site registration will be available; however, course materials are not guaranteed for Registrations received after  (date TBD).

Refund Policy
A $50 handling fee will be deducted from all cancellation refunds. Refund requests must be received by email or fax prior to February 15, 2019. No refund will be made thereafter.

Cancellation Policy
The Office of Continuing Medical Education reserves the right to limit registration and cancel courses, no less than one week prior to the course, should circumstances deem this necessary.
